Ohariu General Election 2011

Dunne Wins in Ohariu.

Peter Dunne wins – and is interviewed by Marcus Lush in which he mentions a certain Libertarianz candidate!

Hear it here.

In conclusion – get out there and vote.

Tomorrow it is all on.

Thanks to all for their words of support.  Thanks to my fellow Libz for a sterling job, especially on our Stratos TV specials.

Thanks also to the other candidates in Ohariu for their courtesy and good humor.

So now get out there and vote.  I have nothing more meaningful to add at this final hour beyond what I have said for the entire campaign.

If you want more of the same vote United Future, Labour or National.

If you like bossing other people around and then feeling smug about it, vote Green.

If you consider yourself a libertarian / classical liberal but you do not care if the party you support is actually full of big spending homophobes. vote ACT.

If you think NZ was at it’s zenith under Rob Muldoon, vote Winston First.

But if you just want the government to leave you the hell alone – vote Libertarianz.

You have only one life.

That life belongs to you.

There is only one party that believes in that -Libertarianz.

In Ohariu there is only one candidate who stands for the value of self ownership, individual sovereignty, personal responsibility and servant government; Sean Fitzpatrick.

So tomorrow, start getting control of your own life back – vote Sean Fitzpatrick in Ohariu and give Libertarianz you party vote.

Doing so you are REALLY voting for YOURSELF.

Oh, and as for the referendum I am personally favoring STV – a system where everyone’s vote really does count!

Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

Cutting Government Spending.

Currently the NZ govt is borrowing $380 million a week just to keep itself going.  In the last 11 years spending has gone completely out of control.

Libertarianz propose reducing the size of govt by shutting down some departments, commissions and quangos immediately.

Others will be wound down as their functions are absorbed by the private sector.

Some will have ownership handed over to the NZ public (who have been forced to pay for them all these years in taxes) in the form of shares to do with as they wish.

And these are the ones that will be privatized – the proceeds being used to pay down debt and provide annuities for the disabled and the elderly.

Socialism in NZ.

All about Income Inequality in NZ.

Message from Libertarianz Leader to all Members.

To all Libertarianz members:

In late 2008 Helen Clark passed on the keys to her ninth floor Beehive office – and the strings to Nanny State’s apron – to her successor, smiling assassin John Key.
Since then, the current Prime Minister has recycled most of Clark’s collectivist policies, coating them with a thick layer of blandness. His Labour counterparts, and the mainstream media, would have us believe there has been radical change of direction, that the National Socialist Party represents the free market running rampant.
Like hell it does.
Over the past month, it is the Libertarianz Party who has taken the present administration to task for abandoning its stated values, while marketing policies that are the antithesis of John Key’s big government agenda. Our candidates have argued consistently for freedom in economics and in our private lives. We have taken unorthodox stances on issues such as asset sales, minimum wage laws and welfare reform. Always, we have ensured that principle took precedence over pragmatism.
A few days remain until the polling booths open, and the voters speak once again. Whether our party does well, or remains mired below the margin of error, there is little doubt that libertarian ideas are slowly diffusing into the public consciousness.
When Frederic Bastiat is quoted in a NZ First MP’s maiden speech (Bill Gudgeon, 2002) you realise that libertarian thought can emanate from the most unlikely of places.
When professional trougher Charles Chauvel calls fellow trougher Peter Dunne “Ayn Rand with hair”, people ask each other who Ayn Rand was.
There is some satisfaction in knowing that even if the Libertarianz Party is not represented in the next parliament, our ideas are permeating into the national consciousness, one enlightened soul at a time.
Thank you for supporting the party of freedom, responsibility and tolerance with your membership. In the week leading up to election day, make our name known to as many voters as you can, and make sure you turn up on Saturday yourself!
Following this election, the Libertarianz Party leadership will examine its options and decide on a plan for the next three years, and possibly the next nine years. It may involve closer contact with MPs and parties whose ideas and policies reflect our own views. It may entail a facelift, a rejigging of roles and responsibilities within the party. It may mean marketing our ideas in new ways.
In the meantime, though, let’s enjoy Saturday night, as we savour the defeat of some of our long term foes – and, if we have done a good enough job, some respectable tallies in our own electorate and party votes.
Best wishes
Richard McGrath – Libertarianz Party leader

The Blandification of (N)ACT.

Lindsay Perigo laments the lost opportunity for ACT to, finally, become a true voice for freedom.

I note that Don Brash, just before the Cuppagate “scandal” broke out, cited the speech in which he offered his personal musings about the cannabis laws as his “biggest mistake” of the 2011 election campaign.

Newstalk ZB quotes him as saying “No question about that, I should not have talked about it, it isn’t ACT Party policy, it hadn’t been approved by the board.”

I would say there are plenty of contenders for the Don’s Biggest Mistake Award, but the marijuana speech isn’t one of them. Don’s mistake in that regard was to lose his nerve after the event, even though public opinion was overwhelmingly on his side for once.

Unbreaking News: Paper Cuts.

The government is taking action again – hooray!  So nice to know they are looking out for us and spending vast amounts of our money to do so!

Liberty vs Power

“The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.”

Walter E Williams – Self-Ownership or Socialisim?

Mr Williams asks the basic question the Libertarianz puts to the NZ electorate; ‘who owns your life?’  The question the other parties want to avoid altogether.
